Tongue Point's Carpentry vocation includes:

  • Carpentry CA
  • Carpentry Helper, Level I
  • Carpentry Helper, Level II
To complete his or her Carpentry training, a student must master dozens of skills in the following categories:

  • Use carpentry hand and power tools; learn safety and maintenance of tools.
  • Ladders and scaffolds
  • Trade terminology and print reading
  • Use carpentry terms, read construction prints, architectural symbols and abbreviations.
  • Measuring tools and equipment, basic construction techniques and basic math operations
  • Lumber and mechanical fasteners
  • Concrete forms (basic column and pier forms)
  • Joists and sub-flooring
  • Lay out, cut and install floor joists, frame floor openings, install sub-floor sheathing.
  • Walls and partitions
  • Frame walls and partitions with window and door openings, install backing for fixtures and cabinets, and raise, align, plumb and brace walls and partitions.
  • Rafters and trusses
  • Sheathing
  • Roofing, siding and exterior trims
  • Doors and windows
  • Drywall application
  • Paneling and interior trim
  • Lay out, cut and install pre-finished plywood and hardboard panel, door and window trim, crown trim, baseboard and corner trim.
  • Insulation
