To complete his or her Cement Mason training, a student must master dozens of skills in the following categories:

Cement masonry as a trade
Know and understand basic cement masonry techniques.

Safety
Use safety on the job and with tools.

Tools and equipment
Proper use of hand, power, and forming tools.

Fundamental theory in cement masonry
Demonstrate trade terminology, math skills, blueprint knowledge, and concrete fundamentals.

Methods
Lay out and set forms, place and strike off concrete and finish concrete using a bull float or darby, edger, jointer, and hand float and trowel.

Special operations
Set forms and place concrete to create curbs, gutters, sidewalks, slabs and steps.

Sealing, patching, and repairing


Special duties and tasks
Use reinforcement materials, color, expansion joints and scaffold building skills.
