To complete his or her Painting training, a student must master dozens of skills in the following categories:

General safety
Display health/safety skills in paint trades.

General knowledge
Use proper painting terminology, materials, and measurement tools.

Materials used
Identify and name various paints, coatings, caulking materials, putty and paste.

Tools and equipment
Use all hand and power tools related to painting trade.

Surface preparation
Prepare various surfaces for painting jobs.

Application of paints and coatings


Drywall
Prepare for and apply drywall.

Wall covering
Complete application of wall coverings.

Spray painting
Apply paints and coatings with conventional and airless spray equipment.

Lead hazard awareness
Identify and use lead-protective equipment, Hepa vacuum, and Tyvak.
